SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to transfer encrypted data between a client and a hosting server, which makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any info. Many tech-savvy users favor SSH due to the enhanced level of security. The connection is made and the commands are sent via a command line. The accessible options depend on the type of Internet hosting service - on a shared server, for example, files could be relocated or deleted, databases could be imported and exported, and archives can be set up or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your choices are a lot more - the web server and the database server may be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software can be set up and a lot more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, because full root access is needed and all the other customers on that server would be affected. Although SSH is employed largely with UNIX-like OSs, there are SSH clients for other OSs as well - Windows, Mac OS, etc.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

If the shared hosting package which you’ve selected throughout the signup procedure includes SSH access by default, you'll be able to activate this feature with a click within your Hepsia CP. In case you have chosen a different plan, the SSH access feature may be included via the Upgrades menu and it shall become available immediately. All the info you need to connect will be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same location and you will be able to change it whenever you want. All commands that are permitted are listed within the Help articles that we've prepared for you, in addition to examples of the syntax which you need to use. An additional advantage of enabling SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is available by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you can easily include it from the hosting Control Panel if necessary - even only for the current month. In either case, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with just one mouse click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you will discover the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you can enter the password which you want to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you can also change it as much as you need. A full list of the commands that can be executed within a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several instances. An extra function after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS

All our virtual private server plans provide SSH access as standard, so you shall not have to include any upgrades or activate anything - the moment the server is set up and you receive its login details, you shall be able to connect via its main IP address and the login credentials that you've chosen during the signup process. As the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there are no restrictions in terms of the commands which you may run. Your server shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage just about everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. This way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any applications which you install in a fast and secure way.
